On 15 June 2024, our Chairman Ishwar Chander was travelling to Anni, in Himachal Pradesh. During the visit he came across a family in difficulty. He provided help and support immediately, ensuring they could get an electricity supply, and got in touch with the local administration to resolve their issues.
It would have been easy to note the problem and drive on. He did not.
During the return journey, the Chairman witnessed a forest fire at Anni. Deeply disturbed, he recorded the scene and highlighted the gravity of the situation with words that have since been quoted back to us many times: "The forest is on fire and the administration is sleeping."
Despite the lack of an initial response, the Chairman and his team took action themselves. They coordinated with the local authorities and worked to extinguish the fire, demonstrating a commitment both to environmental conservation and to service of the community.
This visit underlines what the foundation asks of everyone. Help the person in front of you. Do not wait to be asked. And when the forest burns, do not wait for someone else to arrive with the water.
Don't harm the environment for personal gain. Report the damage — with evidence — and the foundation will pursue it through the proper legal channels.
President Ishwar Chander writes from the forests of Himachal as temperatures cross 50°C, with a plain appeal: plant trees, and stop treating the forest as someone else's property.
Ishwar Chander leads an environmental foundation and an IT company — proof that business acumen and social responsibility need not live apart.
